The basic Spring wardrobe: AYR

Good morning! The sun shines, the temperatures are warm and right now that’s all we need to be happy. That, and a fabulous Spring wardrobe to go with it. Of course, by fabulous we mean monochrome, basic and wearable. No flower prints, no pastels, no 70’s looks for us. That’s why we wanted to share with you the new pieces that AYR has added to its collection. AYR is one of those brands that we absolutely love. Its motto is: good design is always in season. And that’s pretty much what we want to have in our closets. Good quality pieces and edited essentials that last.

The sandals

2 degrees this morning. I mean… 2 degrees! We just can’t stand it anymore. We want sun and over 20 degrees temperatures. Is that too much to ask? Since we moved to Germany I think we have been able to wear sandals twice. Twice in four years! Obviously, that doesn’t stop us from browsing our favourite websites and shops in search for the perfect pair. Is there anything happier than two feet with bright toenails inside a pretty pair of sandals? No, there isn’t. We love mixing bright nail polishes with neutral leather sandals and, in order to rock that look, we need this minimalistic but really nice pair of sandals by Whistles. Don’t you love them? We think they can look perfect with just about any outfit. You can dress them up with a nice little black dress or you can simple wear them with shorts (we are talking denim here, of course) and a tee. Well, we will be visiting London soon so a stop in a Whistles branch is guaranteed… Even though we won’t be able to wear them frequently, at …

Red lipstick

If you are a beauty addict I’m sure you’ve recognized this picture. Yes, it’s the beauty look from D&G’s last show. The makeup was flawless and exactly my favorite kind of beauty look. Juicy yet matte red lips and a good old elegant black cat eye. When I’m not slapping neutral shades all over my face, this is what I like to wear. But red lipstick is tricky. Oh yes. And I’m not talking about which shade suits you better (that problem has an easy solution: ask the girl in the counter). I’m talking about those tiny lines around your lips that insist on ruining your otherwise sophisticated and perfect bold lisptick. Those lines that your red lipstick decides to follow in an attempt to make you look like a granny. If you have 20 years you probably haven’t heard of them (unless you smoke) but beware! They are coming your way. Oh yes. I’ve been using antiageing creams since the day I turned 20, I haven’t smoked a cigarette in my whole life, I drink plenty of …

Direction Marseille

When we like something we stick with it. Fashion wise that can look quite boring, but we  like to think that we are consistent and in tune with our lifestyle. That’s why our favorite brands appear repeatedly on this blog. We are loyal. But how not to when they show us again and again exactly what we want to wear? They seem to get us. We want wearable, discreet, polished but casual and almost monochrome. Sézane has recently presented their Spring collection and we’ve fallen for their delicate shirts, clean lines and amazing sandals. We even love a pair of golden shorts, that even if quite daring, seem like a possible statement for warmer nights.

Thinking about Summer…

Every year in May we head to the beach. A couple of years ago we spent the most wonderful time at Belavista Hotel in Algarve and last year we escaped to Ibiza and Formentera for a couple of weeks of pure relax. So at the moment we are planning this year’s beach getaway. The thing is that around this time of the year our muscles need sun, our skin needs a little bit of salt and our toes need sand. We long for the sound of the seagulls and the smell of coconut lotion mixed with the sea breeze. We basically need to fast forward to Summer. So what are we doing lately to keep up with this beachy anxiety? Look for flights and nice sandals. You know we are all about basics and naturals. While browsing Reef’s website we’ve found some really nice numbers that are just right up our alley. We look for something nice, relaxed and comfortable. Just as Summers should be. And we’ve put together a selection for you (and for …

The classics

Jenna Lyons is our ultimate style icon so her style tips and recommendations are our wardrobe Bible. Yesterday we were browsing the JCrew page (as usual) and we found her selection of classic pieces. We weren’t surprised: timeless basic items that we all can wear, no matter where we live our what we do. She included the following staples in her list and we thought it would be fun to share and find out which classics should we own: – The navy suit: checked! We have a couple of navy suits by The Kooples. Not your average suit maybe… but they are lovely. – The blazer: checked! We have the classic black version, the navy version, the red version and even a striped version. We’ve been looking for a white version for a while now but it’s a difficult task. White fabrics are naughty. – The jean jacket: checked! We have a very old jacket that we would love to call vintage, but it would be stupid. It’s simply old. – The red lip: checked! While P. …

Messy hair

Since we chopped our manes we are bonkers for that effortless messy hair look. The only problem is that it actually takes a lot of effort. We basically fake the #iwokeuplikethis with an hour of curling, treating and messing. I know, I know, we shouldn’t admit that we go through all that, but hey, we are humans and we do not wake up like this. If you do, don’t read any further. However, if you need some help in the mornings and you have frizzy hair some days and ridiculously straight hair the rest of the time, have a look at this products that we’ve tested and we use regularly to achieve a natural messy hair look: Bumble and Bumble hair (un)dressing crème: apply a tiny amount through damp hair. It gives you a rough texture so don’t overdo it. Work with your hands, mess around and let it sit. It gives you that “I’ve just spent a day at the beach” allure. Oribe Dry texturizing Spray: this product is absolutely amazing. It makes your hair …

The right clothes for a woman in her 30s

As much as we love casual clothing, sometimes we need to dress up a little bit to attend work related meetings and events. We are lucky enough to work in creative atmospheres where the strict corporate look is not necessary. However, being lazy dressers ourselves is quite easy to end up wearing jeans, flats and sweaters most of the time (guilty as charged). But Spring is coming and we are determined willing to make an effort. Better temperatures always cheer us up and make us want to step up our game, even at the office. But what to wear? We are in our 30s so we have to look the part… Well, take a look at these Gerard Darel proposals. We think they are right choice for a working woman in her 30s.

We need this! Adidas Gazelle

While preparing this post I’ve found out that I have quite a collection of sneakers. Browsing our Instagram feed I’ve found my custom made Stan Smith, my basic black Nike , my Converse (of course), my Supergas, my New Balance , my polka dot Nike Airmax and my neon Adidas (that I only wear to the gym). Apparently I love sneakers. I never really was a sneaker person but I guess living in Germany has made my style more casual. I’ve always loved flats and I always will but I wasn’t aware of this little addiction of mine. Anyway, I have my reasons: you can wear them with just about everything and by doing so you’ll add an immediate cool factor to your look. I just want to buy more and more pairs. Oh my. My last target are the classic Adidas Gazelle. They remind my of my first year at Uni, when I wanted to be a skater girl and rock a sporty but tortured look. If you weren’t a teenager during the late 90’s you will not understand but, believe me, Gazelles were …

The best night skincare treatment

Winter in the North of Germany is hard and our skin has suffered a lot during the past four long (but really, really LONG) cold Winters. Even though we were quite happy with our bedtime skin care routine we felt there was something missing lately. That push that would take our faces from healthy to glowy and restore that comfortable feeling of nourished skin. We thought we could give Dr. Hauschka a try. This brand is really respected and appreciated in Germany because of its commitment to natural beauty. We wanted something light but effective so we bought the Renewing Night Conditioner, which claimed to support the skin’s natural processses of night-time renewal. Basically, it helps each skin type to be the best version of itself. We’ve been using it for a couple of weeks now and while P. is happy but not really amazed, I am completely mesmerized. My dry patches have disappeared completely and my skin feels juicy. I’m in my 30s and my skin doesn’t look any younger (this is not a …
