My top five eye shadow palettes

There are two things I can’t get enough off: chocolate and eyeshadow palettes. Chocolate is all over the blog and over the last few years I’ve shared a few reviews of my favorite eyeshadow palettes in this space. I’m always a little bit ashamed of talking so enthusiastically about them, or make up in general for that matter, but surprisingly beauty posts always bring new followers to the blog. I guess I’ve heard so many times that liking makeup or fashion makes you automatically dumb, that the thought has got into my shead and I’m afraid of sharing my passion for lovely ranges of colors exposed beautifully in little, flat boxes. I tend to lose my personality sometimes, sorry. There are people that go crazy about color palettes. There are blogs and websites completely dedicated to them! Every December there is a color of the year chosen among the Pantone. For me, eyeshadow palettes are wonderful Pantone displays that happen to look fantastic when applied to my lids (Though it depends on the amount of …

Lip balms for windy days

Is there anyone out there that loves a statement lip but just wears lipbalms, lip perfectors and other products that you can reapply without a mirror  on a daily basis? And is there anyone out there that even when wearing products that you can reapply without a mirror does never reapply them during the day? Well, that’s me. However, I do carry about 50 lip products in my bag. You never know, the day might come when I want to reapply my lipstick everytime I go to the bathroom. I don’t want to be caught off guard. In the meantime I stick to easy, comforting formulas in pink / peach/ nude shades.  They give a light coat of colour to avoid the 8-hours-in-front-of-the-computer face and they moisturize your lips in a nice not too sticky way. You can still wear you hair down in a windy day, I promise. My favourites are the wonderful Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfectors. Subtle shades, nice pigmentation for a lip balm and a surpising longevity. My favourite is …

How to avoid wrinkles

Don’t laugh, don’t cry, don’t sleep without silk pillows, don’t move, don’t live. Actually, this post should be entitled: how to avoid wrinkles without looking  like a wax sculpture. But if you want to laugh, cry, sleep, move and, well… live! you should look for a nice cream that will keep your skin moisturised. It’s not going to be miraculous (none of them are) but it’s going to help. I once heard a dermatologist say: no matter how big or tiny your budget is, you should look for the best cream you can afford. Clean your skin and apply said cream every day. Basically that’s what we’ve been doing since we were eighteen. Clean and moisturise every single day. During the last few years, however, we’ve added some new products to help us in the dewy, jewy, toned skin department. We’ve also added a quick and easy routine at night. It’s something that feels good, the famous me time. It’s a cliché but it does help us relax and unwind. Lately we’ve been loving this …

Post-holidays glow

After our stay in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Madrid and Sevilla, Germany has welcomed us with temperatures of -16ºC. You can say that our skin has been and is suffering. Add the lack of sleep, the flights, the holidays, the big meals … and you have two dull faces fighting to look good with the help of makeup but actually looking like this instead. So in order to make things right and, you know, #newyearsresolutions, we’re trying to stick with a nice weekly ritual that involves these two masks.

New beauty staples

Even though we are BB/ CC cream fans, we know that sometimes we have to step up our game. Our dearest friends’ wedding this weekend might be one of those rare occasions. After watching a few (ok, maybe thousads) of beauty tutorials on You Tube we decided to give the Armani Luminous Silk Foundation a try. And we loved it. It matifies the skin but it brightens your complexion at the same time. The finish is absolutely flawless, even more when applied with the Beauty Blender, and it is beautifully longlasting. It has no scent, feels fresh on the skin and blends like heaven. We’ve also heard that it’s the best foundation when you are having your picture taken, so we’ll see if that’s accurate after the wedding! We’ve introduced another change in our makeup  routine. And it involves colour. Whaaaat??? Yes. We, eternal neutral palette lovers, have been using this creamy,  soft, realy green eye pencil: the Clarins Crayon Khol in Intense Green. It’s brilliantly multitasking: you can use it as eye liner to add …

Better skin

See that picture? I will never have that body. Partly because I hate working out, partly because I have no will power when it comes to chocolate and partly because I have a full time corporate job, plus I have a blog, plus I write for a couple of magazines. That means I don’t have a lot of free time and when I do have it, I prefer spending it on the sofa with a good book or one of my favorite TV series.  The only sport I’ve been practicing lately has been the long walks in London and Copenhagen. My favorite kind of sport, if you ask me. So, now that we got that out of the way, let me tell you that when the temperatures are warmer I do panic and I do care about how I’ll look with no huge coat to cover everything. Like every other woman on the planet. Do I start working out like crazy? No. Do I quit chocolate? Of course not. I turn to cosmetics and beauty …

Red lipstick

If you are a beauty addict I’m sure you’ve recognized this picture. Yes, it’s the beauty look from D&G’s last show. The makeup was flawless and exactly my favorite kind of beauty look. Juicy yet matte red lips and a good old elegant black cat eye. When I’m not slapping neutral shades all over my face, this is what I like to wear. But red lipstick is tricky. Oh yes. And I’m not talking about which shade suits you better (that problem has an easy solution: ask the girl in the counter). I’m talking about those tiny lines around your lips that insist on ruining your otherwise sophisticated and perfect bold lisptick. Those lines that your red lipstick decides to follow in an attempt to make you look like a granny. If you have 20 years you probably haven’t heard of them (unless you smoke) but beware! They are coming your way. Oh yes. I’ve been using antiageing creams since the day I turned 20, I haven’t smoked a cigarette in my whole life, I drink plenty of …

Rosy cheeks and red lips

Chocolate and Clarins are my biggest addictions, so when I saw that the Sephora next to my mum’s house was having a clearance I run. Fast. I’ve had my eye in these two items for a while. Did I need them? No. That’s why I only got them when the price was pretty reduced. I chose the Blush Prodige Illuminating Cheek Colour in the shade Soft Peach. While the name suggests coral undertones and reminds you of a Summery colour, the truth is quite different. It’s a sheer pink that gives you subtle healthy rosy cheeks, which in my opinion is the epitome of Wintery makeup. This small blush palette has different shades that combine perfectly to achieve a really natural yet radiant result. The lipstick it’s not so natural. In fact it’s a pretty bright red. It’s from the Clarins’ Rouge Eclat collection, which we discovered last Autumn. If you read this post, you’ll now that the shade Strawberry sorbet has become our absolute favourite. It’s ridiculously nourishing and  looks beautiful on the lips. Well, …

Natural Autumn Make up

If you follow us (which you should) you already know that we are a tiny bit addicted to Clarins. We love their approach to beauty and their sublime yet natural shades. So, before everyone gets crazy about Christmas special editions, let’s take a moment to admire their beautiful Autumn collection. As soon as I saw that eye shadow I knew I had to have it. I know, I know, I said I would never buy any new eye shadow again but this one is the perfect brownish / taupe / greyish colour. It really is. And you apply it with your finger. Simple as that! It’s a cream to powder texture that looks beautifully matte and delightfully subtle. So, it has it all: quick application, perfect colour and dreamy texture. It’s the shade Rosewood and it’s been my go to eye shadow this month. And talking about natural and appealing shades, I can’t recommend you the Rouge Eclat lipstick enough. We got it in Strawberry sorbet, which far from being a bright Summer pink as the …

What’s in my bag? Travel edition

Do you travel light or full of “what ifs”? We always carry everything with us. Everything. The result: sore backs, grumpy moods and uncomfortable travel. But not anymore!!! We are determined to travel smart. Since we are going away this weekend (more on that this afternoon, stay tuned!) we’ve prepared a “just the essentials” travel bag. Well, apart from our phones, chargers, wallets and wipes, ehem, this is all we will take with us: 1. A medium size cross body bag. Free hands, cute colour, nice leather. It ticks all the right boxes. We bought this one in Hakei, one of our favourite Spanish shops. They have the best leather and fantastic designs. 2. Our camera. In fact we usually take two cameras with us. This one is our Canon Powershot S120. It’s small, easy to use (well, I still have to learn a few tricks) and records video too. 3. A notebook and a pen. To write drown all things important. And scrawling, mostly. 4. Oil blotting papers. Planes are awful to our skin, that’s …
