If you are a beauty addict I’m sure you’ve recognized this picture. Yes, it’s the beauty look from D&G’s last show. The makeup was flawless and exactly my favorite kind of beauty look. Juicy yet matte red lips and a good old elegant black cat eye. When I’m not slapping neutral shades all over my face, this is what I like to wear. But red lipstick is tricky. Oh yes. And I’m not talking about which shade suits you better (that problem has an easy solution: ask the girl in the counter). I’m talking about those tiny lines around your lips that insist on ruining your otherwise sophisticated and perfect bold lisptick. Those lines that your red lipstick decides to follow in an attempt to make you look like a granny. If you have 20 years you probably haven’t heard of them (unless you smoke) but beware! They are coming your way. Oh yes. I’ve been using antiageing creams since the day I turned 20, I haven’t smoked a cigarette in my whole life, I drink plenty of water and eat veggies like a maniac vegetarian. But still, they are there. Defiant.
Anyway, I’ve managed to somehow reduce the mess using a red lip liner. Lip liners were a 90’s beauty must have, then they were rejected and after all this time they are back (the circle of life) only to be a subtle companion for your bold lips. I have a favorite that is really affordable: the No 7 precision lip liner in Red. Yes, the name is surprising! I apply it all over the lips and try to define the contours as much as I can. This helps to control colour bleeding and makes the look more longlasting.
After applying a beautiful red lipstick, most of the times Clarins Rouge Eclat Lipstick Satin Finish, Age-Defying Lipstick in Red Fuchsia or Sephora Cream Lip Stain in Always Red, I also use my beloved YSL Touch Eclat to clean the edges. I bloat and I reapply the lipstick.
Sometimes I get lucky and this process prevents the lipstick for going upwards, downwards and all over my face. Other times I realize in the middle of the meeting/ day/ appointment/ conversation that I look like the Joker. But hey, at least I’ve tried…

Hey, great post! I’m recently getting into bolder lips especially with the summer coming up! However I’m yet to venture into the lip liner world…what would you suggest be a good starting tone to work with?
Hi Lexi!! First of all, thank you so much for your comment! I’ve had a look at your blog and I saw that you have killer eyelashes and lovely skin, so a good mascara and a bold lip is all you need! I would recommend a bright pink or coral, they are the epitome of Summer. Regarding lip liner, try to start with some nude shade, for practice. There are lots of high street brands that do lovely lip liners. I always practice with high street products and after I’ve learnt the technique I splurge on something a little bit more expensive. Choose a lip liner that feels soft on the lip but not too creamy!

E.
Any good brands of lip liners? I’ve been eying up maxfactor!
I really like Nº 7, they are the best mix between creamy and precise. I’ve read that Rimmel’s Exaggerate Lip Liner is very nice too!
I really want to wear more bold lips!! :)<3

Well, what’s stopping you??? ;) I think you’d look beautiful with and orangey red!
I like red lipstick … and I try to remember lip pencil, but it sometimes slips my mind. Looks great at the start of the day, and several hours later, it looks like a 5-year-old put it on for me!
Yeah… I know the feeling. But, believe me: lip liner helps a lot! And you have Boots on every corner so run and buy a No 7 Lip Liner!!! ;)
I’ll try it. I like the GOSH lip liners which you can get from SuperDrug.
Oh! SuperDrug… so many beauty products… I’ll have to move to UK… ;)
wow. on that girl the lipstick looks fab
