Madrid is gorgeous, specially on a crispy cold sunny day. The city exudes positive vibes, people meet friends to grab something to eat and go for a walk in the charming old town. And that’s exactly what we did a few weeks ago.
We started our day in our beloved Gran Vía. A nice morning walk that finished in Plaza de España, where we met our friends. I hadn’t seen them in two years and they were expecting a baby so I was more than excited to share the day with them and talk, talk, talk. We headed to Palacio de Oriente and stopped by one of the most beautiful places in Madrid: the Sabatini Gardens. Not only are they delightful, but also offer one of the best views of the palace.
Finally we headed to La Latina. This is the area where everyone goes on Sunday to drink a good old fashioned vermouth and have something to eat. We wanted to try El Viajero, a very famous place. During all the years we lived in Madrid we never could eat there because it was always super crowded. I was a little bit disappointed, what can I say? The food was good, but it was not delicious. If you ever visit this area, you should definitely go to El Almendro (C/ Almendro 13). That’s our favourite place. Anyway, it was nice to try something new.
After lunch we wandered through the little streets of la Latina. The sun was shining, the conversation was amazing and the city was prettier than ever. We finished this lovely tour around the neighbourhood in a little hidden garden that is one of our favourite spots in Madrid: Jardín del Príncipe de Anglona. A little jewel that offers a fantastic view of the dome of the Sacramento Church. This could possibly be the most romantic corner of Madrid. So if you happen to visit the city with your other half, you should go!
