La Coquería is the new project of Maria Solivellas, the great cook who made the catering for our wedding. Since then not only is she a good friend, but also our favourite chef! Her restaurant, Ca Na Toneta, is simply amazing. In a constant attempt to recover the traditional Majorcan cuisine she has started with Katja Wöhr, her partner in crime, a new adventure in Palma: La Coquería.
This is not a restaurant, it’s a little stall in Santa Catalina’s market, in the heart of Palma de Mallorca. The menu is simple: fresh baked cocas with seasonal products, fresh lemonade and old-fashioned style vermouth. Due to her amazing attention to detail, the stall is just pretty: earth tones, vintage jars, simple yet lovely decor… María supports the artisans of the area relentlessly and unconditionally, that’s why everything here is hand made in Mallorca, even those cute trays for the Cocas.
We tried the caramelized onion and rosemary coca, the spinach, strawberry and cottage cheese coca and the artichoke and local fish coca. Perfection. All of them.
The place is fantastic because you get to know a real Spanish traditional market, the service is wonderful (you will feel like you’ve known María and Katjia for a long time) and the food is simply delicious. You should pay a visit if you happen to be in Palma! They offer take away too (the packing is amazing!!), so you can order your cocas and enjoy them in the promenade under the sun :)
