Sometimes we feel nostalgic about those places we’ve visited, those moments we’ve lived abroad. These pictures make us feel that way. Sunsents tend to have that effect on us. That warm light over an urban landscape has something calming, comforting and encouraging, even empowering. It’s addictive. We want to keep travelling and enjoying quiet sunsets over new exciting places.
Stockholm profiles are blue, pointy, calm, majestic, nautical, romantic and powerful. Undoubtedly, this city is made to be admired, walked and savoured slowly.
Stockholm’s old town (Gamla Stan) was way more beautiful than we had expected. With a splendid entrance dominated by the Royal Palace, the most charming narrow side treets and old facades covered in warm colours, the medieval center of Stockholm has a wonderful fairy tale – like feeling to it.
Our first visit to Stockholm was almost perfect. I guess that the brilliant sun that shined during the whole weekend helped us seeing the city through joyful glasses. We didn’t visit all the museums, we missed a few sights and we took it extremely easy, so this is not a post about the things you must do or the places you shouldn’t miss. This is just what we loved. If you enjoy slow paced weekends, eating a lot when travelling and staring speechless in front of a beautiful sunset, then keep reading…
This is going to be a long post, we warn you. Grab a drink and discover with us this fantastic hotel in the center of Stockholm. We will show you its relaxed atmosphere, some pictures of the incredible food they serve in the restaurant and, of course, expect plenty of rambling about the breakfast buffet.
We don’t want to be that kind of people who visit a place for the first time and immediately become experts. Nop. That’s not us. But in our very first visit to Stockholm we ate the best meatballs that the city has to offer. We are not exaggerating, we really found the best meatballs. After researching for a while, reading some guides and browsing Twitter (that’s today’s scientific research) we discovered this small place where we realized that IKEA has been fooling us this whole time. Those things you eat when you spend your Saturday buying unnecessary kitchen accessories and cool napkins are not Swedish meatballs.
We are really excited because we are going to spend the weekend in Stockholm! We’ll be back on Monday with a chocolate chip cookie bake off, but until then, here you have some posts to read and feed your wanderlust! Out & about Carnaby Street and Vesterbro. A hotel devoted to literature in Madrid. The best corners of Padova. A cool loft plus the best street market in Amsterdam. Our favorite neighbourhood in London and our last discovery. Ibiza’s top picks with a side of Formentera. The best trattoria in Vicenza. Our dream destination. The best hotel we’ve ever been to. And, of course, Venice. PS. care to join us on Instagram or Twitter for a few Stockholm updates? Image via
Next week we’ll be heading to Stockholm for a little early birthday celebration. We are really excited but a little bit overwhelmed / anxious at the same time. As usual. So much to see, so little time. For me, this state is the epitome of FOMO: Are we missing the best restaurants? Which museums do we visit? Is there any wonderful place that we just don’t know about? Where do the locals hang out? Nowadays, planning a trip can be tricky: there’s so much information out there! And that sometimes paralyses us. I’m not talking about booking flights or finding the best hotels. That’s the easiest part. What we find tremendously difficult is the next step. Deciding what to do, where to go or where to eat (this particular issue is very important! ;) to make the most of our experience. Besides, we also try to find the best spots to take pictures, the coolest establishments in town and, all in all, the best content for the blog. It can be quite intimidating. We love …
Every Winter we decide that we have to visit Stockholm the next Summer. Then Summer arrives and we just don’t book the trip. I don’t know why… it seems like we can’t find the time to visit Stockholm in Summer due to our yearly travels to Spain. But don’t you think this is a city you have to visit in Summer? Anyway, the main reason why I want to visit Stockholm is not its architecture, royal palaces, charming colourful streets or state of the art cuisine and design. Not even the ABBA Museum! The truth is that I want to visit Stockholm because I want to try the real Cinnamon Buns! #foodie, I know.
Last week I told you that this year I would love to travel more… Well, I’ve thought that it would be nice to write a list of places I’d love to visit during 2013. I hope that by the end of the year I will be able to cross some of them out!
