Feeling beautiful, feeling fine

I have to admit that during most of my life I’ve been ashamed of being a beauty addict. Of course I know that watching Lisa Eldridge’s makeup tutorials and getting excited about the latest Charlotte Tilbury lipstick doesn’t make me forget all the books that I’ve read, all my working experience and, under no circumstances, erases any neuron of my brain. But forgive me, I doubt about myself and feel stupid if I get passionate about a new eyeshadow palette or a friend laughs at my obsession with smooth hair. What can I say? Maybe I’m stupid, maybe I’ve been influenced by a society that encourages women to be ultra girly/ feminine only to make fun of them for it afterwards. Notice that just as I was writing this I’ve spent a fair amount of time thinking whether in this context the words feminine and girly could be understood as an insult/offensive/ chauvinist. Or if by saying feminine here I’m implying that other women who don’t like makeup or skincare are less feminine. Obviously, they …

Summer makeup

Two months ago we spent a few days in Ibiza. In addition to lots of tips for our slow-paced weekend guide to Ibiza, we brought a nice tan with us. Miraculously we still have a lovely sunkissed tone in our skin and that’s why my only purpose in life since then has been keeping and enhancing that “oh, I’m just back from Ibiza” glow. For that, I’ve been skipping foundation and using these ten products (plus lots of moisturizer and lots of water, because we all know that drinking lots of water is the secret to eternal youth, good health and Victoria Secret’s body). Becca First Light Priming Filter Instant Complexion Refresh: this primer gives you a glowy base for your foundation but if you have a light tan, the one that gives you small cute freckles, you can use it as a your skin, but better lotion. Clarins Instant Concealer: a little bit goes a long way, so tiny amount of this concealer will cover your  dark circles (because you are just back from the …

My top five eye shadow palettes

There are two things I can’t get enough off: chocolate and eyeshadow palettes. Chocolate is all over the blog and over the last few years I’ve shared a few reviews of my favorite eyeshadow palettes in this space. I’m always a little bit ashamed of talking so enthusiastically about them, or make up in general for that matter, but surprisingly beauty posts always bring new followers to the blog. I guess I’ve heard so many times that liking makeup or fashion makes you automatically dumb, that the thought has got into my shead and I’m afraid of sharing my passion for lovely ranges of colors exposed beautifully in little, flat boxes. I tend to lose my personality sometimes, sorry. There are people that go crazy about color palettes. There are blogs and websites completely dedicated to them! Every December there is a color of the year chosen among the Pantone. For me, eyeshadow palettes are wonderful Pantone displays that happen to look fantastic when applied to my lids (Though it depends on the amount of …

Lip balms for windy days

Is there anyone out there that loves a statement lip but just wears lipbalms, lip perfectors and other products that you can reapply without a mirror  on a daily basis? And is there anyone out there that even when wearing products that you can reapply without a mirror does never reapply them during the day? Well, that’s me. However, I do carry about 50 lip products in my bag. You never know, the day might come when I want to reapply my lipstick everytime I go to the bathroom. I don’t want to be caught off guard. In the meantime I stick to easy, comforting formulas in pink / peach/ nude shades.  They give a light coat of colour to avoid the 8-hours-in-front-of-the-computer face and they moisturize your lips in a nice not too sticky way. You can still wear you hair down in a windy day, I promise. My favourites are the wonderful Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfectors. Subtle shades, nice pigmentation for a lip balm and a surpising longevity. My favourite is …

MAC Diva

To be honest, I don’t really like MAC. Sure, it was one of my favourite makeup brands a few years ago: it was so innovative, forward-thinking, so edgy… But suddenly it was too much for me. Now I prefer a subtle, easy going make up and, somehow, this brand doesn’t seem to represent what I am. I know that’s how branding and marketing work… and well, it works. For I feel more related with other brands’ images. However, every time I feel daring I visit a MAC counter. So a few weeks ago I headed to my local MAC looking for a deep berry, almost purple lipstick. I wanted something dark to pair with my new eyeshadow palette. Bright, soft eyes and a dark lip is the Winter look par exellence, isn’t it? And I found the gorgeous and ultra matte Diva (02). The name is so MAC! The formula is surprisingly soft and doesn’t live my lips dry. The color is quite long lasting and you can build it up, so you can have …

Blushed nudes

I know, I know… another eyeshadow palette? Well, this one was an accident. But a very happy one. The kind of accident that happens when you are just browsing in your drugstore, when you don’t want to buy anything, you are making time because you are meeting your mum in fifteen minutes. But then you see something. It looks appealing. You grab it, open it, swatch, realise it’s absolutely gorgeous, look discreetly the price tag and then you shout: no way, it’s ridiculous! And, of course, you buy it. Because, #yolo!

Lately…

Lately I’ve been wearing this look on repeat. Basic and neutral. Perfect for extra long days at work. November has been crazy and I just didn’t have the time or energy to get creative. So almost every morning, I’ve chosen my Max Mara glasses (retro vibe), my leo print scarf (neutral as goddess Jenna Lyons said) and my two new makeup essentials (yep, makeup again!).

The Autumn edit by Nails Inc

During a short visit to Sephora in Copenhagen I spotted a cute box with this three beautiful Autumn shades, which were part of the Autumn Alexa Chung collection for NailsInc. I loved it… but didn’t buy it. Obviously, I regreted it afterwards. That’s so me. But on my birthday someone thoughtfully remembered that I wanted it and got it for me. Insert heart eyes emoji here. I’ve been using these three shades on repeat. Not only are the colours gorgeous, as you can see, but the formula is outsanding. I’d say it’s the best one I’ve ever tried! It’s really longlasting, the application can’t be easier and the color is ridiculously rich. Oddly enough my favourite shade is that dark green with grey-ish undertones. It’s called Battersea Park and it looks smarter than I would have thought. Instagram Exhibit A. Grosvenor Crescent is a deep aubergine shade that was the star of my Halloween week. Instagram Exhibit B. And finally you have the sweet pink/light browk, Uptown. My least favourite of the pack, but still pretty lovely. …

Mauve eyes

I’ve been loving mauve shades lately. They are neutral, they pair beautifully with brown eyes and they feel so Autumny. From the lighter shades to the depeest berry, I think they are just what you need for everyday looks. Oddly enough and just for once, my favorite products are from the drugstore. So I thought that we should celebrate the fact that you don’t have to spend much to get these gorgeous colour combinations! The Bourjois ColorBand duo that you can see in the picture is my go-to for Mondays, when I just can’t be bothered to use any brush. I apply them directly and blend with my fingers afterwards: Rose Fauviste for the upper lid and Mauve Baroque for the crease. They are waterproof and stay put the whole day. As I said, perfect for Mondays. Then we have another fantastic and longlasting shade from Bourjois’ Color Edition range: Petale the Glace, a light and a little bit shimmery mauve. The texture is fantastic, it goes from cream to powder, so it makes a great …

Looking forward

Even though all I see while browsing though Instagram are palm trees, white sandy beaches and lots of bikinis, I’m already looking forward to Autumn. Maybe too soon? Well, the days are shorter now, the air is fresher and last week, instead of making the most of the sales, I found myself with this hat in my hands. Autumn has always been my favourite season, what can I say? I look forward to wearing my trench with loafers, bundling up in warm pijamas for long lazy Sunday mornings… And, to be honest, these three launches are making September look much more interesting!
