Copenhagen: our 10 favourites

Now that we are putting the finishing touches in our next trip, here you have the last post about our recent stay in Copenhagen. These are the 10 things that we recommend every time someone asks about tips on this gorgeous city. Our musts. Our favourites. 1. Tea and/or coffee at Cafe Norden. We’ve mentioned this gorgeous café several times and that’s because it’s cosy, cosmopolitan and has a gorgeous understated fashionable clientele that makes it perfect to people watch. Besides, their coffee, ginger and lemon tea and chai latte are delicious. And their cinnamon buns won our personal “best cinnamon bun in CPH” contest. The location is perfect, central and just in front of the luxurious department store Illum.   2. Walk by the water: whether the weather is sunny and bright or grey and foggy, a walk along the water is mandatory. There’s nothing as relaxing as a slow walk along the canals and the inner bay. We’ve been going to CPH frequently for the past 5 years and this area has improved …

A walk in Vesterbro

We shared our thoughts about Vesterbro, the hippest area of Copenhagen, a couple of years ago after our first visit. Last month, during our latest stay in Copenhagen, we came back and revisit this cool district and discover new favourites. Vesterbro is full of cafes and restaurants that are a magnet for those in search of the perfect Instagram snap, but it also oozes local authenticity. Vesterbro is a strange mixture. One the one side you have those typical bad neighbourhood vibes, even more the further you walk away from the city center, but on the other side you can visit some of the most cosmopolitan spots in Copenhagen. One of them is Værnedamsvej, a narrow side street that hosts cool shops like Aesop or Samsoe & Samsoe (check their cashmere sweaters!), boutique bakeries, wine shops and one of the most famous cafés in Copenhagen: Granola. Of course this was our first stop. A nice cup of coffee warmed our hands on that beautiful, crisp Autumn day. The vintage atmosphere is beautiful, the gorgeous light and …

Gasoline Grill, Copenhagen

This is arguably the best burger we’ve ever had. And we bought it in an old petrol station. During our recent stay in Copenhagen we discovered THE BEST burger place that had been hidden in plain sight the whole time. Every time we visit Copenhagen we choose hotels or rent apartments in the same area, between Nyhavn and Kings Garden. This neighbourhood is fantastic because we can walk to almost every sight, we can have breakfast at Atelier September or dinner at Geist, it’s nice and quiet but still lively… In short, it’s perfect. One day, having lunch at Sticks and Sushi, which happens to be one of our favourites and it’s also located in the area, we spotted a long queue of people waiting to pick up burgers at a tiny burger joint inside an old petrol station. We were shocked. We had seen the place lots of times but we never thought about trying it.  A short google search afterwards and we found out that Gasoline Grill was named one of the best …

A walk in Norrebro

Everytime we go back to Copenhagen we discover something new. As chiclé as it sounds, there are so many beautiful charming little streets to discover. During our last visit to the happiest city in the world we spent a fair amount of time walking and discovering the most delightfully cool side streets, due in part to the amazing weather we were lucky to enjoy.  One day, armed with comfy sneakers and wrapped in our coats we headed to Norrebro, where we found the hippest street of Copenhagen. Norrebro is quite a big area and even though some guides say that it’s not walking distance from the city center, we did walk from Indre By, the central area where we were staying, to Norrebro. The truth is that walking in Copenhagen is a pleasure: the sweet colours of the façades, the beautiful architecture and the wonderful people watching make any walk truly entertaining. Just beware of the cyclists, the real queens and kings of the city! After a nice cup of coffee in Toverhallerne Market, we …

Our favorite European neighbourhoods

We are lucky enough to have visited some of the most wonderful European cities more than once. The truth is that when one place fascinates us we can’t help but coming back to discover more about it. That’s how we have found our favorite areas in cities like London, Copenhagen, Paris and Venice. The reasons why we prefer these neighbourhoods are diverse: it could be a local vibe, a different atmosphere, a big concentration of nice restaurants or shops or a unique charm that simply appeals to us. Castello, Venice This is probably my favorite place in the world. The most authentic sestier of Venice, where you can get lost in the tiniest streets and practically see no one, contemplate in silence the wonderful canals and enjoy the little bit of real life that is still fighting the hordes of tourists in Venice. Here you can find our favorite accommodation in Venice, Residenze Cortenova, and one of our favorite restaurants as well, La Oliva Nera. Even though this area is not as impressive as others, it feels …

10 Instagram accounts to follow if you love Copenhagen

This time of the year is a wonderful moment to visit Copenhagen. It may sound strange but this is the best season to experience the über famous hygge at its best. The city is quiet and extremely cold, but the dusty pastel colours of the buildings and the candle lights shining in almost every window make the atmosphere almost magical. There is also a very important reason to plan a Copenhagen getaway before the Spring comes: the black kale with fried egg and sorrel at Geist. We’ve mentioned it a few times already, we know, but allow us to insist: it’s absolutely delicious. So in case you dare to visit Copenhagen in Winter or if, like us, you are charmed by this city, here you have 10 Instagram accounts to follow and discover the best places to eat, see and visit. @conpenhagenblible: gorgeous landscapes and top views @copenhagenart: for artsy shots of the city @livefromcopenhagen: cool everyday life in Copenhagen @copenhagenurbanadventures: small and private tours to discover the city as a local @madaboutcopenhagen: beautiful stories …

Top travel moments 2016

The year is coming to an end and it’s time to look back. Instead of making a compilation of our trips this year, we wanted to revisit those special moments that we’ve experienced. Those instants, minutes or tiny lapses of time when we forgot everything else and felt truly happy. The feelings that are worth the trouble, the reasons why travel heals your soul… The moment we entered our cosy apartment in Copenhagen after a whole day of exploring in January. That satisfaction of discovering new places and being awfully but happily tired with red, burning ears from the freezing wind. The moment we saw the most wonderfully starry sky in Mallorca, which took us completely by surprise and made us remember, both with joy and sadness, those who were not with us anymore. The moment we couldn’t stop laughing during our walk on the Thames Path with our friends after a wonderful brunch in a local cafe. We catched our breath, looked up and saw a wonderful view of the city on one side …

A day in Copenhagen

Our day started early with unexpected heavy rain and furious wind. We dedicated a couple of hours to sip our coffee and read. Lazily we decided to get out, even though the weather was not promising. However, the idea of a whole day lost in the streets of Copenhagen was appealing, in spite of the weather, any weather.

Corallo, Copenhagen

From a chic restaurant in Madrid to a fancy lobster bar in Copenhagen. If last week we showed you where to have a nice lunch in the most elegant neighborhood of Madrid, today we share with you a great option to rest during your Copenhagen shopping spree.

Copenhagen cruise

Copenhagen is a wonderful city that never cease to amaze us. Every time we’ve visited the Danish capital we’ve discovered new corners, restaurants, shops and things to do. A couple of weeks ago we got up early, wrapped up and headed to Nyhavn to board in a little cruise that showed us a majestic Copenhagen that we’d never seen before.
