My favourite cleansers or how to erase your day from your face

Long time no see? Well, I’m sure you’re thinking that after the last avocado toast post there was nothing more to add to this blog. Well, even though #avotoastsarelife, there are other reasons. Have you ever tried to do your laundry but on the way to the washing machine a sock falls out and then you bent down to gather the sock and then a bra falls out as well and then you try to pick it from the floor and another sock falls out and when you finally have everything in your hands and you try to continue your way to the washing machine because you just want to do your laundry and get on with your life you hit your head with a piece of furniture and that hurts so much that you inevitably touch your head and therefore the perfect pile of dirty laundry collapses and all the socks fall out all over the floor? Well, that has been our life lately. So between work, appartment search, family issues and lots of …

Festive makeup

After a whole day packing, which we both hate, we are about to head home for Christmas. That means we are going to meet our families and friends which we haven’t seen for what it feels like ages. That also means that we will be going out more than usual, which isn’t difficult because we usually go to bed at 10pm. And for me, that also means that I have more opportunities to wear makeup. Yay! You already know that I love makeup so any occasion to rock a red lip is welcome… but only if I can be in my bed by 10pm. So Christmas is perfect because you basically can wear the most insane red lip all day every day without anyone saying: uuuhhh, red lips… what are you celebrating? To which I usually answer: Life, you moron! But during the holidays if anyone remarks that I’m wearing red lipstick (in case I forgot the ten minutes I spent perfecting my lip liner, I guess) I can answer: Christmas! (You moron!) So today …

Summer makeup

Two months ago we spent a few days in Ibiza. In addition to lots of tips for our slow-paced weekend guide to Ibiza, we brought a nice tan with us. Miraculously we still have a lovely sunkissed tone in our skin and that’s why my only purpose in life since then has been keeping and enhancing that “oh, I’m just back from Ibiza” glow. For that, I’ve been skipping foundation and using these ten products (plus lots of moisturizer and lots of water, because we all know that drinking lots of water is the secret to eternal youth, good health and Victoria Secret’s body). Becca First Light Priming Filter Instant Complexion Refresh: this primer gives you a glowy base for your foundation but if you have a light tan, the one that gives you small cute freckles, you can use it as a your skin, but better lotion. Clarins Instant Concealer: a little bit goes a long way, so tiny amount of this concealer will cover your  dark circles (because you are just back from the …

Beauty basics

Even though we love discovering new beauty products, there are a bunch of items that we’ve been using for years. We are extremely loyal to them and while we love watching You Tube videos or Instagram mini-tutorials about fascinating, new beauty launches, the truth is that we always go back to our basics. In fact, we bet that every woman has her beauty basics, those no one talks about, those products that aren’t fancy but give her that special scent that identifies her, that beautiful shine in her hair or the softness of her skin. Those little things that make us… us. In my case, that’s the Irresistibly Smooth Nivea body lotion, the light blue one as I always call it. It has changed its name and packing during the last few years but the lotions is always the same: lighter than the original Nivea body lotion and softer, with a warmer scent. In fact, that’s the scent most people identifies me with. It’s great for dry skin and its non greasy formula makes it fantastic …

My top five eye shadow palettes

There are two things I can’t get enough off: chocolate and eyeshadow palettes. Chocolate is all over the blog and over the last few years I’ve shared a few reviews of my favorite eyeshadow palettes in this space. I’m always a little bit ashamed of talking so enthusiastically about them, or make up in general for that matter, but surprisingly beauty posts always bring new followers to the blog. I guess I’ve heard so many times that liking makeup or fashion makes you automatically dumb, that the thought has got into my shead and I’m afraid of sharing my passion for lovely ranges of colors exposed beautifully in little, flat boxes. I tend to lose my personality sometimes, sorry. There are people that go crazy about color palettes. There are blogs and websites completely dedicated to them! Every December there is a color of the year chosen among the Pantone. For me, eyeshadow palettes are wonderful Pantone displays that happen to look fantastic when applied to my lids (Though it depends on the amount of …

Lip balms for windy days

Is there anyone out there that loves a statement lip but just wears lipbalms, lip perfectors and other products that you can reapply without a mirror  on a daily basis? And is there anyone out there that even when wearing products that you can reapply without a mirror does never reapply them during the day? Well, that’s me. However, I do carry about 50 lip products in my bag. You never know, the day might come when I want to reapply my lipstick everytime I go to the bathroom. I don’t want to be caught off guard. In the meantime I stick to easy, comforting formulas in pink / peach/ nude shades.  They give a light coat of colour to avoid the 8-hours-in-front-of-the-computer face and they moisturize your lips in a nice not too sticky way. You can still wear you hair down in a windy day, I promise. My favourites are the wonderful Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfectors. Subtle shades, nice pigmentation for a lip balm and a surpising longevity. My favourite is …

How to avoid wrinkles

Don’t laugh, don’t cry, don’t sleep without silk pillows, don’t move, don’t live. Actually, this post should be entitled: how to avoid wrinkles without looking  like a wax sculpture. But if you want to laugh, cry, sleep, move and, well… live! you should look for a nice cream that will keep your skin moisturised. It’s not going to be miraculous (none of them are) but it’s going to help. I once heard a dermatologist say: no matter how big or tiny your budget is, you should look for the best cream you can afford. Clean your skin and apply said cream every day. Basically that’s what we’ve been doing since we were eighteen. Clean and moisturise every single day. During the last few years, however, we’ve added some new products to help us in the dewy, jewy, toned skin department. We’ve also added a quick and easy routine at night. It’s something that feels good, the famous me time. It’s a cliché but it does help us relax and unwind. Lately we’ve been loving this …

Post-holidays glow

After our stay in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Madrid and Sevilla, Germany has welcomed us with temperatures of -16ºC. You can say that our skin has been and is suffering. Add the lack of sleep, the flights, the holidays, the big meals … and you have two dull faces fighting to look good with the help of makeup but actually looking like this instead. So in order to make things right and, you know, #newyearsresolutions, we’re trying to stick with a nice weekly ritual that involves these two masks.

New beauty staples

Even though we are BB/ CC cream fans, we know that sometimes we have to step up our game. Our dearest friends’ wedding this weekend might be one of those rare occasions. After watching a few (ok, maybe thousads) of beauty tutorials on You Tube we decided to give the Armani Luminous Silk Foundation a try. And we loved it. It matifies the skin but it brightens your complexion at the same time. The finish is absolutely flawless, even more when applied with the Beauty Blender, and it is beautifully longlasting. It has no scent, feels fresh on the skin and blends like heaven. We’ve also heard that it’s the best foundation when you are having your picture taken, so we’ll see if that’s accurate after the wedding! We’ve introduced another change in our makeup  routine. And it involves colour. Whaaaat??? Yes. We, eternal neutral palette lovers, have been using this creamy,  soft, realy green eye pencil: the Clarins Crayon Khol in Intense Green. It’s brilliantly multitasking: you can use it as eye liner to add …

Better skin

See that picture? I will never have that body. Partly because I hate working out, partly because I have no will power when it comes to chocolate and partly because I have a full time corporate job, plus I have a blog, plus I write for a couple of magazines. That means I don’t have a lot of free time and when I do have it, I prefer spending it on the sofa with a good book or one of my favorite TV series.  The only sport I’ve been practicing lately has been the long walks in London and Copenhagen. My favorite kind of sport, if you ask me. So, now that we got that out of the way, let me tell you that when the temperatures are warmer I do panic and I do care about how I’ll look with no huge coat to cover everything. Like every other woman on the planet. Do I start working out like crazy? No. Do I quit chocolate? Of course not. I turn to cosmetics and beauty …
