We love puff pastry. It’s light, it can go sweet or savory and it turns every ingredient that goes with it into comfort food. This recipe is perfect if you want something sweet but not overly so, if you don’t have much time to bake and if you love Nutella. Plus it will make your house smell amazing.
You will need just four ingredients:
1 ready-rolled puff pastry (you can make it from scratch, but we are lazy)
75 gr. Nutella
60 gr. finely ground hazelnuts
Preheat the oven to 180º.
In a bowl mix the Nutella, ground hazelnuss and egg. Reserve.
Unroll the puff pastry and with the help of a glass make 12 round pastry circles.
Place six of them on a baking try covered with baking paper.
Using a teaspoon, spread the pastry with a layer of your Nutella mixture. Leave a small border for joining the two pastry circles together.
Lay another pastry circle on top and join the edges lightly pressing them together all around.
Repeat with the rest of your pastry circles until you have six Nutella puff pastry bites.
At this point you can brush the surfaces with egg yolk (you will need an aditional egg yolk, then) But, honestly, we tend to skip this step because we prefer the simple taste of the plain pastry.
Bake for 15 minutes.
The result is rustic and light. If you really have a sweet tooth you might want to add a couple of tablespoons of sugar to the Nutella mixture. However, we love the earthy hazelnut flavour and the simplicity of these little bites. Serve with a nice cup of coffee and a little bit of rain behind the windows.
