The first picnic of the season

31 Mar

Yesterday was one of those glorious first days of Spring when all you want to do is sit outside and look how beautiful the world is. And that’s exactly what we did. After an early morning Spinning class (ouch!) we prepared our beautiful picnic basket and headed to the river banks, where we spent a fantastic day. And ate the BEST SANDWICH ever.

The atmosphere was relaxed but happy. Groups of young girls sunbathing, kids playing with frisbees (of course I got hit by one), families riding bicycles… Everyone seemed so happy. The air was filled with that perfect green grass smell that reminded us of Summer days at the swimming pool, oh it was perfect! So we picked a spot and sat down to enjoy the day.

The menu was easy. We simply ate the best sandwich in the world. If you don’t believe us, just try it. You can find the recipe here. In fact, we challenge you: please try it. And if you think that you can do a better sandwich, plase do share the recipe with us!

Layers of the most delicious ingredients (that we bought on the farmers market the day before) beautifully seasoned with Dijon mustard, mayonnaise and several dashes of Worcestershire sauce. All washed down with lemonade and accompanied with lime and pink pepper chips. Yum!

And a big chocolate chip cookie for pudding!
We spent the rest of the afternoon napping and talking about how nice the weather was. We are still surprised. After long Winter we still feel numb and tense! All in all, it was a great day. Oh, Spring! be nice and stay with us a little longer!

Happy week!

I’m so jealous of your picnic. It poured all weekend here (and even decided to snow a couple inches, too!)
