London is one of our favorite destinations when it comes to weekend getaways but finding a nice accommodation can be tricky. We have stayed in really different places: from the überpriced B&B in Paddigton to a huge hotel facing the famous Big Ben. But we finally have found our home in London. I never thought I would say that, but we have found the hotel where we would love to stay from now on every time we visit London. The search is over. Let us introduce you to The Mandeville Hotel.
From the moment the kind concierge opens the door with an honest smile you feel welcome. The lobby is all about updated British style: those crazy paintings on the walls, the traditional furniture mixed with unexpected colors and prints… Everything feels new, dynamic and charismatic. The staff is really helpful and nice. There was a lovely boy from Naples and a Spanish girl at the reception desk that made everything easier for us during our whole stay. First impression? Wonderful! And before I forget it: the location is just perfect. We walk to almost every appointment we had that weekend.
But that cozyness was on the verge of tininess, so the following day we asked if we could have a superior room. Don’t get me wrong: the room was perfectly fine if you want to explore the city and go back to the hotel for a nice rest, but since I had to work during the weekend, I needed a little bit more of space. Luckily for us, there was a nice room available and the following morning the staff took care of everything. For an additional cost of 24 pounds per night, we got this beautiful superior room with lovely views and a really nice desk for me to work in. (There weren’t white stains on the wall, I swear… I don’t know what happened with this picture… weird.)
And speaking about food, let’s focus on the amazing breakfast and the Reform Social Grill, the fantastic restaurant located in the hotel. This is what their website claims:
“Taking inspiration from classic British gentlemen’s clubs, Reform Social and Grill offers an informal yet sophisticated experience with quality at the fore”.
On Sunday night we were so tired that we cancelled our plans and decided to stay in. At the reception we were told that hotel guests could enjoy a 20% discount in the restaurant, so we were more that happy with the idea and gave it a try. The atmosphere was amazing: quiet but not boring. The candles in every table created that amazing glow under which we all look prettier and there was really (seriously, really) great music with the exact volume to cheer you up without interfering with the conversation. We felt better immediately. The waiter was really kind and talked us through the menu. P. went for the fish and chips because it was Sunday and it was UK. She said it was super tender, not greasy at all, and the tartar sauce was spectacular.
The waiter was serving that incredible dessert to other table and when I saw it my expression had to be quite explicit because our lovely waiter told me he could bring it if I wanted to. Of course! Please! The dessert was part of the Reform’ed Classics menu, but they made an exception and allow us to get high on praline mousse, peanut brittle and salted caramel ice cream. I swear it was one of the best desserts I have ever had. And I’ve had plenty! Just because of that dessert (called Snickers, by the way) The Mandeville has to be our home in London! Oh, and I have to go back to to enjoy their afternoon tea!
