ATHENS

20 Apr

Athens is a great city. A bit chaotic and noisy but hey, it has the Parthenon! We have been there a couple of times, but the last time was amazing. We were invited to a real Greek wedding, so we took a couple of weeks off work and spent the most amazing time in Greece.

We spent one day in Athens before heading north. The first thing we did was, obviously, visiting the Parthenon. It was amazing, so ancient but still so powerful. We got up very early but it was oh so worth it because we avoided the crowds. We loved the Parthenon and the views. Look at that!!!

The Caryatids balcony in the Erechtheum was my favorite spot…

After a whole morning of history, art and lots of walking we decided to eat in one of the taverns in Plaka, the most picturesque location in Athens just under the Acropolis. The day was warm and lovely, so we ate outside. Lovely! I don’t remember the name of the place, but I’ve found out that you can see the telephone number in one of the photos :-) Greek food is so good!! You don’t need fancy restaurants, just a simple and nice place with homemade food. Well, what can I say? Look at the pictures: the tablecloths were made of paper!!!

We spent the rest of the day wandering through the streets. The Parthenon was there, witnessing all…

We relaxed in a wonderful café and planned the following days… Next stop: a Greek wedding in a small village in the north. Then back to Athens to take a plane and… a whole week in Mikonos!

To be continued…
